Next year.....after the Keynote speaker we should have a short session that involves everyone going to assigned labs. During this short session, walk everyone through setting up a gmail account, as well as logging in and posting on the blog. I think it would help & avoid some of the confusion and frustration. We should also have student gmails set up ahead of time (that we have control over) because many of our students are under the age of 13.
We could set it up like........
- If you do NOT have a gmail account, go to Lab 228.
- If you have a gmail account but have difficulties logging on, go to Lab 229.
- If you have a gmail account already, go to Lab 121.
- If you have a gmail account & have NO problems blogging last year, go to lab 230.
Would that help?
The would work if the network would permit the setting up of gmail accounts. Currently we cannot create an account here at HMS. I have struggled with the problem of creating student accounts, and finally decided yesterday to just create a second gmail account for myself and use it for all kids. I have tried the student account that goes MY EMAIL NAME + STUDENT NAME at gmail.com, but it doesn't work for our blog. I haven't been able to make it work for the wiki, either. So now i have mkulib@gmail.com for myself and bwcubs@gmail.com for student use.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea Karla. It would really move things along better.
ReplyDeleteI think on the permission slip form for students it should require them to give a gmail email address and for the teachers to register they provide one on the form as well.
ReplyDeleteI think the session idea would be great from there...just going over blogging and making sure everyone is good to go.
If we have students and teachers include their new gmail accounts on a form a few weeks before camp starts we could then send out a blog invite to participants before the school year is over! Great ideas everyone! Thanks for contributing!
