Vision Net
I did Vision Net today and found it extremely exciting. We got to literally interact with an author and a man at NASA. The student sat for 3 hours and were very well behaved the whole time. The vision net cart is located at the two high schools in Helena in their libraries. Since the elementary school don't have any, I would think that going over to the high school and using the cart with your class would be appropriate. We got to even see the weather of Japan. What a great way to learn with your class.

The author we met, Vicki Cobb, is an author of nonfiction for children. What a great sense of humor. She really knows how to present information to kids and adults. Her website, http://www.vickicobb.com, provides small video clips based on her book, We Dare You, as well as many other fun things.
ReplyDeleteOur time with David Alexander, Digital Learning Network coordinator for Oklahoma State University's program at the AERO Institute and instructor for NASA's teleconferences, was second to none. In August, teachers have the opportunity to set up free classroom participation for the next school year with Alexander. His wit and knowledge will be an asset to any science program.
Perhaps the idea of taking our students to one of the high schools could make this program a bit more workable for elementary classes. I like it, but it is such an expensive investment for each school to attempt on its own. I'd like to see some sort of clearinghouse list of places we can call!
